Here is a great for a basketball team….and also a way to teach the value of giving back to our youth. Have a hoops contest to raise money for a cause. Have the team choose a to support, then organize a . Have each team member ask for depending on how many baskets they make in an allotted time. For instance, in 1 minute period, a person can sponsor a dollar a basket. Make sure that the team makes it clear that they are for a cause.

-  how are we all pulled into watching it.  Instead of watching it, why not use it as a creative  idea for two charities.

are formed, and over several weeks, tasks are given, such as selling , or putting on a talent show, and for each task half of the money raised is given to the winning .  At the end of the period of time, the winning team would receive the other half of the money from the previous tasks.

I am not a person who commonly carries cash…my , bless them, see that my wallet is constantly empty!!  However, even I can usually dredge up a dollar!  Why not ask for a donation of ONLY a dollar.  How easy and un-offensive is it to simply ask for a !  Most people would have difficulty saying no to that. Even if they have only a quarter or a few dimes, that can add up at an amazing rate.   Consider checking to see if local businesses would mind if you put a dollar jar at their counter, or have a jar ready and in plain sight at local events such as games, plays, meetings, etc…

Bonus:  No overhead, not much fore-thought, and EASY!

With the current state of if the economy, many local families are desperate to put food on the table. Be the one to help fill the fridge of a family in need.  Ask the local if they could deliver to a family that they know has a greater need than some others. Additionally, ask if they are willing to share a few details while still keeping it anonymous such as; job loss, illness, etc. Get the word out to your friends, family & co-workers that you are collecting for a specific family in need/crisis.  Many people will feel more compelled to give if they feel connected.  So, share a few details while still respecting the privacy of the family.  Deliver the goods and or funds to the pantry.  You will never know who you helped, but you can feel good about the fact that you DID help.

It has become a common occurrence to have businesses ask if you would like to donate to a cause when you check out.  If you live in a smaller community why not try this on a smaller scale and ask local business owners for their help?  This would be especially effective if many residents share a common bond i.e. a band, , family in need, etc. Have the business ask their customers at the end of their purchase if they would like to help out the cause.  The total can be added on to the bill, and if it’s a check/credit card cashed out and placed into a collection box by the customer.  Many people have good intentions of donating to a cause, yet never have a chance to get to it.  This makes it easy for the busy person, and also tangible by giving them the cash back to place in the box.

It seems as though everywhere you turn these days, there is a sign that says “we ”.  Many people have loads of that just sits in their jewelry boxes and never sees the light of day.  This can present a unique opportunity to raise money for your group.  Here is how:

  • Design a flyer telling why you are .
  • Ask that people look into their and donate an old item or two (or more) for your cause.
  • Collect the gold personally or have local business owners offer to place a collection jar at their location….consider a business that is visited often, such as a grocery or gas store.
  • Make sure you get the word out as much as possible.
  • Find a reputable jeweler and ask if they would be willing to buy your gold or if not, if they can recommend a place that does and that is fair and honest.
  • Tally your funds!
